HealthCare Mobilizes Its Patient Care System Using Phoneomena
Mobile Middleware Technology

Shands HealthCare has chosen Phoneomena Inc., an innovative
mobile application and middleware company, to mobilize its
patient care system. By using Phoneomena’s eXtensible
Medical Application Development Platform technology™,
Shands HealthCare will mobilize its existing medical applications
created using EAGLE (Enhanced Application Generation Language
for the Enterprise) for deployment on thousands of Motorola
iDEN Java phones serviced by Nextel Communications.
The sought mobile patient care system is expected to increase
the availability and productivity of its users (Physicians/Residents),
and is expected to provide a high level of automation of
the flow of work according to dynamically changeable business
rules. The mobilization effort aims at minimizing human
errors and maximizing the quality of health care service
delivery. It is also aimed at minimizing resource waste
and increasing revenues, which is expected to lead to a
